Women are becoming increasingly concerned that men will not elect them as high-ranking political officials. This is the primary reason for women to be underrepresented in leadership positions compared to the thirty-one percent of males. Sixty-three percent of women agree. This gap isn’t just limited to politics. The same issue exists within party systems. Women are more likely than men to claim that obstacles prevent them from achieving.
Former presidents of Malawi, Finland, or Sweden are just a few examples of women who have a voice in international political matters. Women believe that female leaders are more compassionate than their male counterparts. Half of Americans believe that gender doesn’t make a an impact on the way women behave. However many people believe that women in high-ranking office maintain respect for civility.
A prime example of this is the first Native American women elected to Congress. They are Debra Halaand, Teresa Leger Fernandez, and Mary Kunesh-Podein. In fact, Debra Halaand was selected by President-elect Joe Biden to be his secretary of the interior in January 2021. Stephanie Bice, an Iranian-American woman who was elected to the House in January 2021, is another instance. She is also the first Iranian American to be elected to the U.S. Congress. Summit for Democracy, a biden administration initiative, launched an array of commitments to combat anti-democratic headwinds across different nations. One of the latest U.S. government initiative is the Advancing Women’s & Girls’ Civic and Political Leadership Initiative. The initiative will invest $33.5 million in efforts to increase women’s participation in the civic arena and address entrenched barriers to political participation. Women who are interested in applying can do so to become a member of the WELead2023 program to become more involved in politics. Applicants who are accepted to the WeLead program are not charged.
Participation of women in politics is crucial to achieving democratic justice, equality and fairness. A fair representation in the political system results in better outcomes for girls and women.
